About Dr. Cronin
Dr. Cronin specializes in the comprehensive treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions, including arthritis, sports injuries, rotator cuff disease, instability, and fractures. He utilizes both operative and non-operative techniques to restore patients to top-level performance in sports, work, and everyday life activities. Dr. Cronin has a particular interest and specialized training in complex shoulder disorders, including massive rotator cuff tears, shoulder deformity, and failed previous surgery.
Dr. Kevin J. Cronin is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of South Florida.
Dr. Cronin was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then received both a master’s and medical degree from the University of South Florida right here in Tampa. Dr. Cronin completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he trained at one of the busiest Level-I trauma centers in the southeast. During his residency, Dr. Cronin received numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Junior Resident Award and Outstanding Chief Resident Award. After residency, Dr. Cronin completed one year of specialized training from many of the world’s experts in shoulder & elbow surgery at the prestigious Rothman Orthopaedic Institute / Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia.
Dr. Cronin is an avid researcher and educator. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in international orthopedic journals, including the Journal of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery. His research has led to multiple local and national awards and Dr. Cronin was named an Orthopaedic Research All-Star by Avant-Garde Health in 2023 for being in the Top 5% of all orthopaedic researchers nationally. He has been an invited speaker at local and national meetings and has authored numerous chapters in orthopedic surgery textbooks on shoulder and elbow conditions. Dr. Cronin is an active member of the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He serves as faculty at the University of South Florida College of Medicine and participates in education of medical students, residents and fellows.
Outside of the office, Dr. Cronin spends time with his wife and children. He also enjoys grilling, playing golf and is an avid fan of all things Florida Gators.

My husband saw Dr. Cronin for a second surgical opinion - right shoulder. After reviewing his x-ray and MRI and performing a thorough assessment, he clearly explained the extent of his rotator cuff injury (acute on chronic) and functional impairment. Dr. Cronin provided a non-surgical option for treatment first (physical therapy) after a steroid injection. My husband will return for reevaluation. Dr. Cronin is an exemplary Doctor. He is so personable, it is a quality that is so welcoming. He's very concerned about my welfare and how I am getting along after my surgery. He was very upset after my surgery, when I had to come back to the hospital the next day, due to an oversight of the placement of the sling that caused my hand to swell. Plus, when I returned to Brandon Hospital, he was never notified. When I seen him for my first visit and explained the situation, he was very concerned. That is outstanding for a doctor to take such an undivided attention for a patient. His expertise in his field is outstanding, as you can find all over the internet. My 8yr old had surgery for her broken arm and Dr Cronin was very good with her. The surgery went well but bedside manner is also really important with kids so they feel safe. I love Florida Orthopedic Institute!! I've seen several Dr's due to breaking both femurs twice, having both femurs rebroke twice, plates, pins, screws, both knees replaced, broke arm/shoulder, broke humorous & rotator cuff. The Dr's at FOI are the best Dr's and I love each of them to pieces. The nurses and staff in radiology, casting and MRI are all amazing as well!!! Dr. Cronin is an excellent doctor and surgeon. In August of 2023 he performed a total reverse shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair on my left shoulder. Less than 6 months later I am pain free and can perfectly daily activities. My right shoulder is also bone on bone and the pain is at a tolerable level. He provided a cortisone shot yesterday to provide some comfort and reduction in pain. At some point, I’ll have to have my right shoulder replaced. While I’m not looking forward to it, I am so pleased I found him and the care and surgery on my left shoulder was excellent. I could not ask for a better doctor and surgeon. Dr. Kevin J. Cronin was very pleasant, relaxed, and courteous. He asked questions and provided concise and understandable diagnosis and explanation of plan of action for surgery. X-rays were performed immediately after checking in 15 min before appointment time. Dr. Cronin’s direct examination occurred about 30 min after scheduled time and lasted about 15 minutes. I left the complex an hour and 15 minutes after initial arrival, including meeting with a staff member to schedule surgery. First let me say that breaking my elbow turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I got to experience “The Dr. Cronin Effect”! What this is really is the incredibly kind and extremely talented manner that he has to put you at your ease. I understood everything. I have went through the whole process with Dr. Cronin. From the diagnosis, surgery, and all the post-surgery follow-ups. I could not have asked for a better doctor. Wonderful office!!! The staff and doctor were excellent. Polite, considerate, professional and early. My appointment was at 1:50. I was taken back for X-rays at 1:35 and saw Dr. Cronan at 1:05. Remarkable. After previously seeing 3 other shoulder specialist, he finally diagnosed my real problem as my shoulder, not my neck. Thank goodness. Painless shoulder surgery. Yes painless, and there was plenty of damage to be fixed. 3x more damage than was seen on the MRI. This was my first follow up and I am cleared to resume life after 4 months of recovery. I was expecting the most painful surgery possible based on everyone I talked to and had the exact opposite experience. I needed 0 pain medication from the minute I left the surgical center.
