Dr. Kannen is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He was born and raised in the suburbs of Akron, Ohio where he grew up participating in various sports including soccer, baseball, and cross country. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. He completed medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He returned to his hometown to complete residency in Family Medicine at Summa Health Akron City Hospital. He completed fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida. He has served as a team physician for Major and Minor League Baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, as well as Ironman triathlon, University of South Florida, and local high school teams.
Dr. Kannen cares for all musculoskeletal conditions in pediatric and adult populations. He has special interests in overuse injuries of the upper and lower extremity, endurance sports injuries, diagnostic ultrasound, and regenerative medicine treatments.
He is a member of numerous organizations including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Kannen cares for patients of all ages and activity levels. He understands patients come from many different backgrounds and education levels. He believes in teamwork with other caregivers to provide the highest level of care to get patients back to work or activities they enjoy. Dr. Kannen views exercise as medicine and promotes individual patient wellness in all aspects of his medical care. He also views and treats each patient as one of his own family.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kannen enjoys spending time with his wife Christelle and two cats. He also participates in outdoor activities including running, biking, swimming and golf. He loves to travel, watch movies, and eat at local restaurants.
