About Dr. Kannen
Dr. Kannen graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and completed medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr. Kannen completed a family medicine residency at Summa Health Akron City Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University of South Florida. Dr. Kannen has served as a team physician for Major and Minor League Baseball with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, the University of South Florida, the Ironman triathlon, and local high school teams. He assists with annual physicals for the University of Tampa and provides high school sports medicine coverage in Hillsborough county.
Jeffrey T. Kannon is board-certified and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Kannen cares for all musculoskeletal conditions in pediatric and adult populations. He has special interests in overuse injuries of the upper and lower extremity, endurance sports injuries, diagnostic ultrasound, and regenerative medicine treatments. Dr. Kannen also evaluates and treats patients with low bone density in a Bone Health clinic.
He is a member of numerous organizations including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Kannen cares for patients of all ages and activity levels. He understands patients come from many different backgrounds and education levels. He believes in teamwork with other caregivers to provide the highest level of care to get patients back to work or activities they enjoy. Dr. Kannen views exercise as medicine and promotes individual patient wellness in all aspects of his medical care.
Outside of the office, Dr. Kannen enjoys spending time with his wife and two cats. He also participates in outdoor activities including running, biking, pickleball, and golf. He loves to travel, watch movies, and cook.

From the time I entered the office everyone I encountered at the office was very friendly. I was taken to the exam room before my actual scheduled appointment time and the doctor came in within minutes. He was examined my injury and gave me advice I needed to help my injury heal properly. I tripped on a sidewalk while walking when a dog startled me and a feel straight down and smashed my knee.I came in to get an x-ray and it checked out and Dr Kannen spent some time analyzing my knee, going over x-rays, things to help me recover and was patient while I asked any questions.

Been dealing with PF in my left heel for 7 mos and knew I was going to need a shot. I wish I hadn't waited... he used some freeze spray, ultrasound to guide the needle and I never felt a thing...ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! His staff was great!! First Visit with this practitioner & at this location. Previous FOI patient where appointments were delayed & Dr provided snacks & water in the waiting room after taking months to obtain an appointment. Was in shock to call Thursday & have an appointment Friday. Staff extremely friendly & accommodating. Dr took his time to understand what I was telling him & what I needed. Services provided & I was referred from general orthopedics to a surgeon. First surgeon I was referred to see was entirely too far from my home. Staff obtained name of alternative surgeon at the Citrus Park center which I was reasonably able to get to as my ability to travel is extremely limited especially depending on my health that day. Staff was able to obtain an appointment only 9 working days away at Citrus Park location which is not only a Dr office, but has an attached surgical center. Staff able to find a Dr who accepts both my 1° & 2° insurance. Thank you. for outstanding service in a timely manner with a follow up appointment in an exceptional time period. Wow! This practice runs like a well oiled machine. What a treat to be in and out of a doctor's office n record time! I mean NO DELAYS of any sort from my on time arrival to my departure in less than an hour which is remarkable condifering my visit included check-in, an x-ray, ultrasound of my Achilles tendon, a treatment plan as outlined by Dr. Kannen, and my 1-minute checkout. I had an appointment with Orthopedic Dr. Jeffrey Kannen for pain in both knees when I walk. I thought Dr. Kannen was excellent. All office staff were wearing face masks which I really appreciated, and they require all patients to wear them. The waiting room is very large with lots of seating, which gives you the opportunity to sit far away from others if you choose to. The forms I had to fill out online I felt were asking repetitive and redundant questions. The forms seemed overly lengthy. However, when I got to Dr. Kannen's office, the check in was very fast. The office staff and medical assistants were extremely organized. About a half dozen X-rays were taken of my knees. All staff members and Dr. Kannen were very friendly and professional which I really appreciated. I was able to see Dr. Kannen very quickly after the X-rays were taken. He showed me some exercises I could do to help strengthen my knees. He also prescribed medical knee support braces for when I walk. An assistant showed me different knee braces and helped me pick out the correct size. I actually walked out wearing my new support braces. Because I received a professional fitting the knee support braces were very comfortable, and I could feel tremendous support exactly where I needed it on the inside part of each knee. I only had a $5 copay and Dr. Kannen's staff confirmed that my insurance paid 100% of the knee support braces, so there was no cost to me. I feel it would be nice if they would streamline the online check in forms. But overall, I thought Dr. Kannen and his staff at the Florida Orthopadic Institute were excellent.
