About Dr. Yi
Dr. Yi firmly believes in nonsurgical treatments and that non-operative methods are successful in most cases. However, if surgery is required, Dr. Yi can perform the latest, most advanced minimally invasive arthroscopic surgeries available. His fellowship training was in Sports Medicine and his expertise is in shoulder, hip and knee surgery. He is one of the few surgeons trained in hip arthroscopy that preserves the hip joint using small incisions instead of the traditional large incisions that require longer recovery times. His training also includes the use of ultrasound for diagnosis and treatment, including ultrasound-guided hip injections.
Dr. Seung Jin Yi is fellowship-trained and board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Yi has presented his research nationally and has authored various book chapters in sports medicine. During his training, he gained experience in the treatment of collegiate and professional athletes, assisting with team physicians for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Fire, and the Chinese Olympic Volleyball Team.
Dr. Yi was born in Jeju, South Korea but grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. He obtained his undergraduate degree in biology from Emory University and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine before completing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He then completed additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine at the University of Chicago, where he trained in advanced, minimally invasive arthroscopic and open techniques.
Dr. Yi enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. He also likes to fish, hike, and play soccer and volleyball.

Fixed my shoulder, gave me a sling, and a ball :-) no issues with scheduling overall, parking in Gunn Hwy location stinks - Dale Maybry parking is better…as others have eluded to, delays due to insurance BS four days prior to surgery not the fault of Dr Yi or Ortho Inst. and he even helped work through it (much appreciated 🙏 ) everyone is friendly, efficient and thorough. I love Dr Yi and his PA’s he did a knee clean out several years ago when a replacement had been approved. I broke my humerus bone in July, both er and ortho in Brooksville told me SURGERY! I went back to Dr Yi and he told me we could wait and see how it healed. He did not want to put pins and plate in my shoulder, if I didn’t recover to where I needed it to be we would do a shoulder replacement surgery. Dr. Yi and the entire staff at the N Telecom Pkwy location were amazing from start to finish. Appointment scheduling, patient forms and the check in process was all super easy and the staff was professional and kind. X Rays were done and read in a very short amount of time. Dr. Yi has such a great personality and is wonderful with kids. He explained everything to me very detailed and I understood exactly what was wrong and the timeframe in which my child’s sports injury would be fully healed. I love Dr Yi, after the ortho I saw up in Brooksville, said “surgery” first thing out of his mouth. Dr Yi had done a knee clean out for me 12 years ago. He is so positive and is taking a different approach, other than surgery😄. His office staff was good, ANDREANNA went above and beyond helping me check in (she showed empathy, patience (left humerus fractured- I’m left handed). My appt was at 11:20 and we were back in the car by 12:45, the thing that took the time was paperwork!! We were seen promptly, he spent time going over everything with us. So happy to have seen him in the past, so the ortho the TGH in Brooksville (that will be a completely different review) I couldn’t give Florida. Orthopedic telecom office a better review. Tore my Achilles on Wednesday night, walked in to FOI urgent care first thing Thursday morning and was promptly seen and referred to Dr. Yi, Sports Medicine at 8am Friday morning. Dr. Yi is awesome! Received a Tibial Plateau Fracture playing basketball. He performed surgery and repaired my damaged knee area. I then had 3 separate follow-up visits at the Citrus Park office and everyone there was always kind and professional. The most efficient office environment I have ever been to for a doctors office. I was never there longer than 30 minutes and that was with an x-ray each time. Dr. Yi was able to answer all of my questions in detail and without making me seem stupid for asking them. Dr. Yi is the best orthopedic surgeon I have known or ever heard of. I had a total knee replacement and a shoulder replacement , which ended up having to be put in from reverse? Both times the surgery with his therapy recommendations resulted in my being up and around in a month with almost full function. This is totally unlike my friends who had similar surgeries and were out of commission for months into years!! He is great and I am grateful to him! I had to use FOI in 2017 for a right knee total blow out. Best experience I could ever have from a specialty medical office. The staff prompt, attentive, courteous, kind. Three years ago I had shoulder surgery with Dr. Yi. He explained what he saw on the disk but found more damage during surgery. Surgery took longer than expected but he did a wonderful job. I had to stay in a sling longer than others I know but Dr. Yi knew what he was talking about. I have 100% use of my shoulder while others I know that did not see this doctor still have problems raising their arms. After working very hard at physical therapy I am golfing again, without pain! Son broke his leg in two places at a trampoline park. Because we have AETNA, we couldn’t get in to see a orthopedic surgeon for over a week from having it placed in a splint at the ER. Got in with a last second appointment with Dr. Yi as a cash-patient. He was great. Offered to cast it but thought it would be wise to see a pediatric orthopedic surgeon because one of the breaks was on a growth plate. Gave us a script for the pain (ER wouldn’t), and had the leg put in a new splint to make my son more comfortable. Provided great advice - And, at what price? FREE! The location has a lot of parking and plenty of handicapp parking. The building is super clean and open. Once I greeted and told someone will be right with me. The staff is very organized and friendly. The new patient forms are via tablet and a few short questions. Once I turned the tablet back in, I was asked for my DL, insurance. That was quickly scanned and paid for my co payment. Waited less than 15/20 mins and I was taken to the back. The wrap station was clean, open organized. The tech who helped was funny and sweet. Dr. Yi is the fourth knee doctor I have been to. I have had significant issues for 10 years, and each previous doctor would not listen to me and said, "we just need to do a replacement. Finally giving up/giving in, I went to see Dr. Yi and said I am ready for a knew knee. He stopped me and said let's examine all alternatives first, and thinks I may go another decade before needing a replacement. I am elated with his work and approach. He moves quickly and gets to the point, I think that may be why some people gave him lesser reviews. I did not take it as rude at all, he is just a busy man. We were extremely pleased with Dr Yi’s attentiveness but more importantly his skills. My 89 year old Mom had a complete shoulder replacement with outstanding results. My Mom felt well informed and well taken care of throughout the entire process. Had a great experience with my treatment by Dr Yi at the Citrus Park office! I came in there limping in my right leg due to an injury at work, and after several weeks of physical therapy and an injection in my hip I am no longer limping! Now and can walk as far as I want with no limping or pain whatsoever! I hope I will not ever need to return with an injury again, but if I do, I will insist on Doctor Yi! My wife, who has advancing Alzheimer's, fell at home and broke her hip. As the attending orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Yi came to us by luck. We could not be more pleased. He met with us a day prior to surgery, clearly explaining the hip condition, the options available (pinning, partial or full replacement) and the reasoning for each. The day of surgery, he spoke to me re her condition change (bone had rotated) necessitating the partial replacement and that it would take 60-90 minutes. 50 minutes later he reappeared, explaining a successful procedure. Dr. Yi was extremely friendly, compassionate and helpful with my shoulder arthritis and resulting degeneration. He remarked early on that surgery would probably be required at some point, but was always willing to try steroid injections until I felt I was ready for surgery. After surgery the results have been amazing. i'm still working on rebuilding strength, but my range of motion without pain has increased dramatically. My experience with Dr. Yi was excellent. Had pain in knee for a while at local fast treatment got x-ray refereed to ortho. Found Dr. Yi and based on reviews, qualifications, and philosophy went to him. He looked at x-rays and felt knee indicated torn ligaments and arthritis in knee (news to me) Drained knee & injected cortisone shot which helped Immediately. I went to the Emergency Room one night back in February 2018 and the doctor there who treated me recommended I make an appointment with Dr Yi, which I did. After several visits that included a cortisone shot and an MRI, I was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. I decide to have the surgery to repair it. The surgery absolutely changed my life. Dr. Yi was the surgeon on call at the hospital I went to after a bicycling accident which left me with a badly broken elbow. He explained everything to me and also my mom who was in the lobby since I couldn't comprehend much due to the anesthesia. I had tried other options for repairing my right knee which had degenerated quite a lot and was painful. I met with Dr Yi after having an X-ray. We looked at it together and he advised me to have a full knee replacement. I had the surgery in November and I followed the exercise instructions. It was painful for a few weeks at the site.
