About Dr. Likine
Originally from Michigan, Dr. Likine earned his undergraduate degree in Movement Science from the University of Michigan before attending Indiana University School of Medicine. His background in kinesiology and lifelong interest in athletics have shaped his approach to orthopedic care. Dr. Likine completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident and was recognized as Resident of the Year. He subsequently pursued advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa.
Dr. Likine is currently board-eligible in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
His clinical interests include shoulder and elbow replacement, complex revision surgery, arthroscopic surgery, upper extremity trauma/fractures, sports-related injuries, and the treatment of both routine and cotreatsmplex shoulder and elbow conditions. Dr. Likine’s care philosophy combines evidence-based medicine with individualized treatment and shared decision-making. His goal is simple: to help each patient restore function, return to an active lifestyle, and achieve the best possible quality of life. Whether treatment is surgical or non-surgical, every decision is guided by the patient’s individual needs, goals, and what will provide the best long-term outcome.
He is committed to staying at the forefront of orthopedic care by incorporating the latest research, advanced surgical techniques, and innovative technologies when they can enhance patient care. He has a special interest in incorporating robotic-assisted surgery, muscle-sparing techniques and pyrocarbon hemiarthroplasty to enhance surgical precision, personalize treatment, and optimize patient care.
Dr. Likine has a strong commitment to global health and international collaboration. He has participated in global health initiative trips to Ecuador and Tanzania, contributing his time and expertise to caring for patients in underserved communities. These experiences have strengthened his commitment to advancing access to high-quality orthopedic care beyond his local community.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Likine enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs. Fitness and maintaining an active lifestyle are important parts of Dr. Likine’s life. He is an avid runner who has completed multiple marathons and also enjoys strength training, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time outdoors. When he’s not training, Dr. Likine enjoys grilling and smoking meats—particularly brisket—and cheering on Michigan football and Detroit sports.
