Shoulder and Elbow Repair with Dr. Gasser
In general, most orthopedic sports medicine physicians deal with a variety of injuries. I was wrestling and I kind of just felt a tight in my shoulder. Busy part of my practice is dealing with shoulder problems. He took me in and tighten up my shoulder. He definitely extended my wrestling career and let me do the thing that I love. It’s not always athletes. There are athletic injuries that are, you know, more commonly associated with the athletic population. But these types of injuries can occur in anyone. I was working at the grocery store, stocking ice cream. I reached my arm up in a top-shelf to reach a cup of ice cream and they felt a real sharp and kind of a pop in my shoulder. I did a bit of research on the physicians at Florida orthopedic and I came across Dr. Gasser’s name. He had done a lot of work with the Tampa Bay Lightning and other sports organizations.
There’s a lot of teaching. They were able to diagnose a tear in my labrum. The labrum is a tissue that, uh, rims the socket of the shoulder to help increase its depth. And provide more stability to the shoulder joint. And in most cases this is torn off and that’s what we would sew back arthroscopically to repair that. With the advent of arthroscopy and newer instrumentation, uh, it’s become a much easier procedure, less invasive surgery, so it’s less painful. It allows for an easier recovery and rehabilitation, loved cooking the kitchen. Um, it’s kind of a, um, more than a hobby. The injury did hamper my ability to doing cooking, reaching, and all those kinds of things. This is a surgery I’ve been able to do a lot more of the cooking, paint significantly better. Dr. Gasser by far exceeded my expectations of a surgeon to work on my shoulder. Fantastic experience.
