Dr. Profile: Christopher Reb, DO

Dr. Reb: My approach to medical care is focused on the person that I’m taking care of. I need to understand who they are, what they’re trying to do, and then we figure out how those problems are getting in the way of it. That’s what we base our treatment decisions off of.

I’m Chris Reb and I specialize in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery. I chose to specialize in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery because it was an opportunity to learn how to do common surgeries uncommonly well. And then also to develop skills and be able to do things that other people wouldn’t or maybe couldn’t do.

I graduated from Villanova and then went to medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I did my residency in south Jersey, at that time was called the UMDNJ and then my fellowship at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center in Columbus, Ohio. From there I became a proud Gator and joined the faculty at UF.

Orthopedic foot and ankle surgery is a focus on the musculoskeletal conditions of the lower leg, foot and ankle. This involves the bones, the tendons, the joints. It involves sports, trauma, correcting deformities, reconstructing problems. That’s what I do, and that’s what I really like to do. Orthopedic foot and ankle surgery is constantly evolving and that pace of change is really increasing. Currently, there’s a renewed emphasis on minimally invasive surgeries. So, the way that I approach these things is to not just read about them and participate academically but also to take training and then slowly work it into my practice.

I chose to join Florida Orthopaedic Institute because of the people. My peers are some of the best doctors that I know and this is an opportunity for me to really focus on the patient and practice the way that I think is most important. What inspires me is meaningful contribution and productive
enterprise. I admire it in other people and I try to pursue it in my own life. I’m trying to pass that onto my kids. At the end of the day it’s about doing for others. That’s the most productive enterprise you can engage in.
