Doctor Profile: Dr. Charles Nofsinger, MD
Dr. Nofsinger: My name is Dr. Charles Nofsinger. I’m an orthopaedic sports medicine doctor. I have been in practice now for 20 years. I trained in New York City at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is part of Cornell, and then I did a fellowship in Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. After that I was faculty at Tulane and I came here to Tampa at USF and have been the team doc for 16 years now. Sports medicine actually is all the joints, but the ones that I treat are shoulder, knee, elbow. For instance, a knee injury would be a meniscus injury or an ACL tear. And then eventually as patients get older, they get knee arthritis and I treat that as well. For the shoulder, it would be what’s called labral or shoulder instability, as well as rotator cuff injuries. And then again, eventually arthritis and I treat shoulder arthritis as well.
I like to see people get back to doing what they love, athletes of all ages. We get them back from injuries that would otherwise prohibit them from playing or doing the things they like to do. If you have a shoulder injury, an elbow injury, a knee injury, an ankle injury, and it’s keeping you from doing what you want, no matter what age you are, you should come in because we probably have a solution for it. And this is really the golden age of orthopedics. Right now we have better technology, better techniques, and better knowledge than we’ve ever had. That even includes some of what I would call joint preservation. So you might have some mild arthritis and we can do treatments that can help you keep going so that you don’t necessarily need a replacement. I think we’ve got the best team of docs in Tampa, and we’ve got a pretty good knowledge base of how to do just about anything in sports medicine.
