E-bikes and electric scooters are increasingly popular ways to commute, exercise and enjoy the outdoors. But because they can travel at higher speeds than traditional bicycles and scooters, crashes can lead to serious injuries, including fractures, head injuries and other orthopedic trauma.

In a recent Tampa Bay’s Morning Blend interview, Florida Orthopaedic Institute orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Hassan Mir discusses common risks associated with e-bikes and scooters and shares practical ways riders can help protect themselves and others.

Whether you use an e-bike for transportation or ride recreationally, a few safety precautions can make an important difference. Riders should wear an appropriately fitted helmet, remain alert to surrounding traffic and pedestrians, follow local traffic laws, use appropriate visibility measures and ride at a speed that allows them to maintain control.

Hear directly from Dr. Mir about e-bike and scooter safety, injury risks and steps riders can take to help reduce their chances of a serious accident.
