My name is Ken. I’m 63 years old. I’m the UPS man. Been a UPS man for 38 years if figure a lot of lifting, a lot of up and down.
There’s in and out of the trucks is in good shape and the as bone on bone arthritis in every step was just grinding, grinding, grinding. He didn’t respond to conservative treatment, I. E. injections, physical therapy. He says, how would you like to try same-day knee surgery. Same day knee replacement involves getting your knee replaced at an outpatient basis. Traditionally we’ve been admitted to the hospital for a period of two to three days, sometimes four days.
As long as we have adequate pain control, excellent anesthesia, it certainly can be done on an outpatient basis. If we can make this more efficient process, it will be a decreased cost. Insurance companies as well as decreased costs for the patient. And they come into the surgery center with that, with the time and usually an hour before the case go through the surgery. And cover usually between three to four hours in our recovery unit. And then actually they go home to, there’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed.
The first night after surgery, I was able to replace his knee and you could see everything is beautifully aligned. Soon as he said, you’re ready to do the second one, I said, yeah, I’m going to do it outpatient again because the experience was fantastic. I did my second new surgery on October 9th on two weeks out of surgery tomorrow. No pain in the knees. Just getting the muscles back in shape. Absolutely incredible.
