I’m Amelia Dias. I played soccer ever since I was six years old. I play Saturdays center mid and center forward.
My name is Jennifer Dias. My daughter’s name is Amelia Dias. When a child plays travel soccer, you are very involved. You know you have practices at least three, four nights a week and games on the weekends almost every single weekend and you’re doing nine months out of the year soccer. And 2012 I had reconstruction done on my right knee, and in 2014 I came back and I had to have reconstruction done on my left. Amelia’s injury was very disappointing. It was. It was very hard and the second time she hurt herself it was even harder.
I’m Dr. Garlick and I’m a knee specialist at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. I specialize in joint reconstruction and sports medicine. Amelia’s surgery. She had bilateral ACL injuries at a very young age as a teenager and on her right side. It took a long time for her to recover. So it’s six months. She was 85% strength. So I wanted to use STEM cell for her left side when she ruptured her ACL to enhance and speed her recovery. So at three months, she’s now at a hundred percent strength.
When Dr. Garlick presented the idea to my husband and myself regarding uh, incorporating STEM cell therapy into Amelia’s ACL reconstruction, we were very excited about that fact. Um, going online and looking and seeing all the great things that people are saying about STEM cells and the wonderful things that can happen with it. Um, we felt very privileged and honored that Dr. Garlick had chosen Amelia for this procedure.
Florida Orthopaedic Institute is offering STEM cell therapy, looking at treatment for orthopedic injuries, both surgical and nonsurgical. So if we can get patients back to doing their athletics with a simple injection of STEM cells, that would be a great benefit if we can get them back on the court back in the game earlier and recover from their injuries earlier without surgical treatment.
After three to four days after STEM cell therapy, I could go full force on the bicycle. There is barely any pain in my knee. Her strength has come back so much faster. Her mobility has come back faster, which improves her attitude, uh, to wanting to improve her game as well. The care I received was great with Dr. Garlick. After seeing results from the STEM cell therapy, I would definitely recommend it. Someone is important for people to consider STEM cell therapy versus surgery.
In cases where I can treat a condition that doesn’t necessarily need surgery or that surgery isn’t a success. So for injuries such as partial meniscus tears, partial cartilage tears, where the surgery doesn’t have a very high degree of success and has a downtime which is significant and recovery time, that sometimes the six to 12 months rather than going through the surgery if they can get an injection and recover within six weeks, I think that shows significant benefit.
I would recommend this time cell surgery to anyone seeing Amelia and what she has done has been truly amazing. It’s important not only to have the right doctors who are innovative to care about your child like they do here at Florida Orthopaedic, but it’s also important that they understand what your child’s goals are and that they want your child to succeed. And that’s exactly what Dr. Garlick’s done. My goal is just to play soccer and just to do what a normal teenager can do.
