FOI completes 20th robotic partial knee replacement
Tampa, FL – (June 24, 2016.) – Florida Orthopaedic Institute announced today that Michael A. Miranda, DO completed the 20th case of partial knee replacement using the NAVIO® Surgery System. As the only location in Florida with the NAVIO robotic assisted surgical system, it allows FOI surgeons to perform precise and accurate partial knee replacements. This system, developed by medical device maker Smith & Nephew, involves only a simple X-ray rather than a time-consuming and radiation intensive CT scan, before the surgeon uses advanced planning software to tailor the surgery to the patient’s anatomy, align the implant, and balance the knee.
“Using the NAVIO system allowed me to visualize my patient’s X-ray before I even began to remove bone,” said Dr. Miranda of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. “By making partial knee replacements a more accessible option through improved precision, we ensure that the patient receives a surgical procedure that is generally associated with smaller incisions, less scarring, and quicker recovery when compared to the total knee replacement alternative. In our Surgery Center, this is performed as outpatient surgery not requiring a hospital stay.”
“Using the NAVIO assisted partial knee replacement, our patients typically walk and climb stairs the same day of surgery. It helps them return quickly to an active lifestyle.” said Dr. Miranda.
Florida Orthopaedic Institute is the first and only location in Florida with NAVIO Robotics, and is one of only 79 locations worldwide.
